Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to analyze the experience of mothers who had hospitalized children to treat congenital syphilis, and the performance of the nursing staff. Method: This is a descriptive and qualitative study composed of a sample of 5 women who had hospitalized children to treat congenital syphilis (SC), identified in the SINAN records of the municipality of Gurupi. The research was conducted according to the Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council under the opinion 3.486.701 of the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Gurupi. Results: The study showed that all mothers suffered from the hospitalization of their child with SC and the procedures they underwent, and most showed satisfaction with the team that took care of their children. Final Considerations: It was evidenced that the attention and support of the caregiver team, the dialogue and the trust are important to make this experience less painful, reducing the impacts of hospitalization for both the newborn, the mother and the family.
