Abstract
ABSTRACT
Objective: To report an experience of undergraduate nursing in the care process provided to a pediatric patient in respiratory isolation, based on the Theory of Basic Human Needs (BHN) to effect the systematization of Nursing Care, serving as a basis for the care of a child holistically. Experience report: The students provided assistance to a two-year-old patient with congenital cardiomyopathy, or during the hospitalization period who was in respiratory isolation due to upper airway infections. The students verified that the patient had been diagnosed with pulmonary atrophy with intraventricular communication (1 cm), patent ductus arteriosus (2.5 mm) and hypoxemia crisis. After nursing care, academics listed the main nursing diagnoses: exchange of impaired gases related to congenital cardiomyopathy, recorded by central and peripheral cyanosis, exertional dyspnea; decreased cardiac output related to congenital cardiomyopathy altered by electrocardiographic changes. The main nursing prescriptions related to infection control. Final considerations: To support nursing care for pediatric patients in respiratory isolation, in the BHN Theory, contributions to holistic care, meeting the requirements at all levels (psychobiological, psychosocial, and psycho-spiritual).
