Abstract
Objective: To know the health profile of the elderly practicing the Interdisciplinary Program for the Promotion of Health of the Elderly (Pró-Hiper). Methods: Quantitative study of retrospective nature, whose collected data (questionnaires) were compiled in a spreadsheet, analyzed and compared with other publications on the subject. Results: 81% were women, mostly married, retired and with low level of schooling; ages ranging from 60 years to over 75 years. The interviewees reported that they performed 1 or 2 types of sport each week, especially bodybuilding, gymnastics and water aerobics. The most common comorbidities were: hypertension, dyslipidemia, DM, osteoporosis / osteopenia, overweight, thyroid disorders, rheumatologic and musculoskeletal disorders. Studies show that the increase in the life expectancy, the maintenance of the functional capacity of the elderly becomes important for the preservation of their independence, since the quality of life in aging involves aspects such as lifestyle, socioeconomic conditions, chronic diseases, mental health and cognitive dimensions. Therefore, the routine practice of physical exercises brings many benefits to the human being, since in the fight against sedentarism, the associated diseases are reduced, and the life expectancy rises. Conclusion: The results may contribute to the local population, managers, health professionals and the scientific community by clarifying that health promotion is not only in the recovery of individuals already affected, but the focus is on the prevention of diseases due to poor living habits.
