Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the adequate management in face of the numerous types of pancreatic cystic lesions. Literature review: Cystic lesions of the pancreas have a low incidence, however, they correspond to a large number of indications of pancreatic resections, with an increase in the incidence of malignant pancreatic tumors being observed in recent years. About 80% of these lesions correspond to pseudocysts, about 10% to 15% correspond to pancreatic cystic neoplasms and 5% correspond to non-neoplastic pancreatic cysts. If the diagnosis is made early, there is a high possibility of cure. The evaluated protocols recommend resection of cysts in the presence of jaundice, acute pancreatitis or in the presence of positive cytology for malignancy. Final considerations: Surgical resection should be performed in selected cases and preferably in high-volume centers due to high morbidity and mortality, with confirmed case surveillance being an important factor in the prognosis. There is consensus on the need for an initial multidisciplinary discussion and the need to include patients in the decision.
