Abstract
Objective: To report the case of a patient with colon cancer, discovered in a referral hospital for surgery in a city in the state of Pará. Case report: Male, 64 years old, complains of diarrhea, asthenia, and weight loss. On physical examination, he presented a palpable mass of 15 cm and movable on the right flank. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen showed an ascending colon tumor. Colonoscopy showed infiltrative blastomatous tumor with luminal stenosis in the distal ascending colon; sessile polyp in the transverse colon; biopsy showed moderatelydifferentiatedadenocarcinoma. After data analysis, the diagnosis of colon cancer was confirmed. The patient underwent enlarged right hemicolectomy, localized peritonectomy, lymphadenectomy and reconstruction with end-to-side ile-transverse anastomosis in two planes. The biopsy of the surgical specimen revealed an ascending colon with moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma measuring 5.0 cm and infiltrating up to the mesocolon. Cancer staging indicated T3N2M0 and Dukes C. Semiannual cancer follow-up was oriented. Final considerations: Investigation and immediate surgical approach are essential in the face of neoplastic suspicions of this nature, aiming to reduce metastases, given the slow diagnostic methods of a public health service in the country.
