Abstract
Objective: To describe the approach to a polytrauma patient with a pelvic bone fracture who underwent left hemipelvectomy at the Reference Hospital in a city in Tocantins. Case report: 27-year-old female patient, victim of collision between truck and motorcycle on a public road, wearing a helmet. She was admitted to the emergency room with the Glasgow coma scale 13, open fracture of the femur, absent wrists, cold skin, pelvic instability and hypovolemic shock. She underwent left mixed hemipelvectomy, hip disarticulation, colostomy, tracheostomy and plastic surgery, and had a good postoperative evolution. After clinical stability, colostomy and tracheostomy were closed. Currently the patient is being followed up on an outpatient basis, waiting for a prosthesis offered by SUS. Final considerations: Hemipelvectomy is an unusual procedure and causes important functional limitations and comorbidities. In the reported case, the patient's evolution was satisfactory and as there are few cases of traumatic pelvectomy in the literature. The results obtained with the research served as an experience for future safe driving in the care of victims of polytrauma.
