Abstract

Objective: To determine the incidence of patients with AFP in the city of Altamira-PA, from 2015 to 2019. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, carried out through the survey of secondary data related to AFP, in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (NDIS) database. Results: Only three cases of AFP were reported from January 2015 to December 2019, two males and one female, aged 0 to 14 years. In the years 2016 and 2017, the notification rate was high. In the years 2015, 2018 and 2019, there was no notification of AFP cases and the rate was below the goal, which may be related underreporting. Two of the cases showed cure without sequelae, while only one evolves with permanent consequences for the patient. Final considerations: In this perspective, we suggest that managers of primary care in Altamira-PA invest in vaccination campaigns, aiming to expand vaccination coverage for disease prevention and in training for the correct filling out of the notification forms for AFP, in order to reduce or even eradicate underreporting.
