Abstract
Objective: To evaluate and compare the quality of prescriptions for controlled drugs and antibiotics
dispensed in a public and a private pharmacy. Methods: The study followed the cross-sectional, descriptive
document analysis model based on medical prescriptions retained in research units in the municipality of
Vitória da Conquista, Bahia in the period from June to July 2019. The instruments used to obtain the data for
the research were the special control recipes (C, B1 and B2) retained by the establishment and the second
copies of the antimicrobial recipes. Results: The average number of drugs found by prescription from
prescription drugs and antibiotics in the public pharmacy was 1.61 and in the private pharmacy 1.83.
Brazilian Common Denomination (DCB): Public pharmacy controlled 87.07% and antibiotics 82.0%, private
pharmacy controlled 26.95% and antibiotics 39.17%. National Drug List (RENAME): Public pharmacy
controlled 96.29% and antibiotics 83.99%, private pharmacy controlled 17.51% and antibiotics 40.90%.
Conclusion: The results showed a greater discrepancy comparing public and private pharmacies in the
parameters DCB and RENAME of the World Health Organization (WHO) Indicators, showing different
profiles of the prescribing professional in the public and private environment.
