Abstract
Objective: To compare the long-term safety and efficacy between Ticagrelor and Clopidogrel in the recurrence of cardiovascular events. Methods: Systematic review analyzing eleven articles regarding the efficacy of Ticagrelor and Clopidogrel in relation to the prevention of major cardiovascular adverse effects (MACEs), acute myocardial infarction (AMI), stroke, death from cardiovascular causes and its safety regarding bleeding and dyspnea. Results: 55.5% of the articles that compared the action of the aforementioned drugs in relation to the outcome MACEs found better effectiveness of Ticagrelor. 60% of the articles that addressed AMI and 55.5% of those that addressed death from cardiovascular causes also found the superiority of this drug. As for stroke, 12.5% of the articles that portrayed this outcome had a beneficial result with the use of Ticagrelor. On the other hand, when assessing bleeding risk, 40% of the articles showed inferior results in relation to the action of Ticagrelor, which were also verified regarding the onset of dyspnea, more frequent with the use of Ticagrelor in 80% of the articles. Final considerations: Ticagrelor is at least as effective as Clopidogrel in preventing cardiovascular outcomes. Still, it is stated that multinational studies are necessary to guarantee the safety profile, aiming to guide clinical decisions.
