Abstract
Objective: Understanding the relationship between self-esteem and suicidal behavior in university students. Methods: It is a study of narrative review of the literature, where the author interprets and analyzes the scientific literature according to his critical judgment. This study was carried out in a non-systematic way, with data collection in the free scientific databases available, in December 2018, with full reading and critical analysis. Results: In the university the differences observed in students with low and high self-esteem are enormous. The risk of suicidal behavior becomes real in the presence of low self-esteem. It identifies in the university a place of possibility for occurrence and development of low self-esteem with consequent suicidal behavior. Conclusion: Conclui-se que é real a necessidade de desenvolvimento de ações preventivas e de práticas específicas que visem a recuperação da saúde emocional dos estudantes universitários.
