Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the pulmonary effects and complications in short and medium term on electronic cigarettes users and its relevance in the cessation process at traditional smokers. Methods: Systematic literature review based on the search of articles about the influence of the electronic cigarettes usage related to the development of future lung diseases and their effectiveness or not in interrupting conventional smoking, published in the last 6 years. Results: Despite the limited number of studies found and the low reliable description of the results of the electronic cigarette itself in the punctuated changes, this study put in the main plan what it shows to provide greater complications and adverse effects in users of EC. Final considerations: Although some symptoms are pointed out as the effects of EC, most studies have only shown acute effects of the devices, and their role in relation to smoking cessation has not yet been proven, requiring further studies.
