Abstract
Objective: Investigate the knowledge and opinions of medical students about the current blood donation criteria, including those related to men who have sex with other men (MSM), analyzing the ethical and moral implications from the light of bioethics. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive, observational study with a quantitative approach, developed with the participation of 167 medical students from a public university located in Belém/Pará. The questionnaire was applied through the Google Forms Platform, after approval by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: It was found that most participants were aware of the blood donation criteria and restrictions applied to MSM. However, more than 80% of the participants agreed that such a restriction was indicative of the moral vulnerability of these individuals, with the majority not being opposed to receiving blood donated by MSM. Conclusion: When it comes to medical education, the results demonstrate the importance of a greater debate on the topic in the training of future professionals, in order to problematize the arguments used in the adoption of such criteria.
