Abstract
Objective: To evaluate pulmonary function, using spirometry and impulse oscillometry, in asthmatic students. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional quantitative study, the sample of which consisted of students diagnosed with controlled asthma. Anthropometric and clinical data were collected, with pulmonary function assessment performed by spirometry and impulse oscillometry before and after bronchial testing. For the quantitative variables, measures of central tendency and dispersion were calculated and the level of significance was set at 5%. Results: 36 children and adolescents were evaluated, aged 7 to 18 years, in which 52.77% were male, with an average age for the entire group of 11.28 (± 3.41) years and height of 147.92 (± 16.78) cm. The mean for the spirometric parameters were FVC = 2.51 (± 1.12), FEV 1 = 2.16 (± 0.96) and FVC / FEV1 = 86.08 (± 9.56) and for oscillometric R5 = 0.625 (± 0.075), X5 = -0.294 (± 0.03), R5-R20 = 0.219 (± 0.148), AX = 1.871 (± 1.406) and Fres = 18.349 (± 5.084). Conclusion: The evaluation of lung function allows the acquisition of important data for the early diagnosis and monitoring of asthma.
