Abstract
Objective: To analyze the benefits and adverse effects of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) in patients with aortic stenosis, classified as high and intermediate cardiovascular risk, compared to conventional therapy. Methods: Literary review through qualitative analysis of research done in the electronic databases SciELO, Medline and Lilacs, without restrictions regarding year, location and using the descriptors "TAVR", "Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation", "aortic stenosis", "outcomes", "Percutaneous Aortic Valve Implantation", "score sts", "minimally invasive surgery". Results: We analyzed 9 articles which describe the use of TAVR, in selected patients, is effective in improving survival, stroke and reduction of other possible complications after the TAVR procedure. However, some authors claim that there are no drastic reductions in mortality, demonstrating the need for intervention with pacemaker implantation. Final considerations: The use of TAVR in patients with high and intermediate cardiovascular risk proved to be safe and effective, resulting in significant improvement of patients prognosis and quality of life, which justifies the need for dissemination of this technique.
