Abstract
Objective: To analyze the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis through a literature review. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive, bibliographic review on the diagnosis and treatment of Endometriosis. The search occurred in the LILACS, MEDLINE SCIELO and VHL databases. The selected articles were grouped into four categories: a) Etiopathogeny; b) Symptomatology; c) Diagnosis; d) Treatment. Results: The literature indicates that there are several theories that try to explain the causes of endometriosis, however its etiopathogenesis is still not well established. In relation to the clinical picture, the symptoms are very varied, and between 3 and 22% of the cases, the patients are asymptomatic, favoring the late diagnosis of endometriosis. In relation to the treatment, the most used are the medicated ones, the surgical ones or the combination of both. Conclusion: Endometriosis is characterized as an enigmatic disease, with a varied clinical picture and still unknown etiology, which hinders the diagnosis process and makes the treatments inefficient.
