Abstract

Objective: Analyze the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in medical students. Methods: The adapted Maslach Bournout Inventory - Studant Survey Scale (MBI-SS) was applied to academics from the first to the tenth period of graduation, so that the prevalence of the syndrome in this population is assessed. The methodological procedures are based on a cross-sectional observational study, adopting the application of the modified MBI scale (MBI-SS) in medical students, using the “Google Forms” tool. Results: Students have a slight tendency to develop Burnout Syndrome. The scores were moderate in “Emotional exhaustion” and low in “Disbelief”, but high in “Professional effectiveness”, not defining the Burnout Syndrome in the investigated classes. However, it was evident that students in the 4th period of the course had a higher score in relation to emotional exhaustion. In contrast, those who were already at the boarding school did not present discrepant scores in relation to the other classes. Conclusion: The scores found did not show the syndrome in the investigated classes. However, it was found that certain classes had higher scores in relation to others, being significant for possible future appearance of the syndrome.
