Abstract
Objective: To evaluate in a clinical case the use of low power laser on manifestations of TMD, trismus and xerostomia in a patient irradiated by radiotherapy. Case Details: Female patient, 43 years old, attended a Clinic School of Dentistry referred from a High Complexity Oncology Center, complaining of pain on the right and left sides of the face and neck; limitation in oral opening; absence of salivation; and decreased taste and hearing. The patient underwent simultaneous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment due to an epidermoid carcinoma with little differentiation in the head and neck region. For the treatment a conservative therapy was proposed with low power laser therapy focusing on orofacial pain, trismus, TMD and xerostomia. Conclusion: The laser therapy showed positive and significant results in the face of painful symptoms, however, the protocol used was not sufficient to obtain positive results for trismus and xerostomia.
