Abstract
Objective: To characterize the sociodemographic and patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment in Caxias - MA. Methodology: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study, carried out with patients diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and who underwent hemodialysis treatment, in the hemodialysis sector at Casa de Saúde, in Caxias - MA. For the nutritional assessment, we used biochemical data from the medical records. We verified the characterization of nutrient intake through the 24-hour recall. We used SPSS software version 22.0 for the statistical analysis. Results: 153 patients were evaluated, 64.1% of them were male. The predominant age range was 50-65 years (54.9%). The highest comorbidity was hypertension (37.3%). Regarding the iron levels, we verified in the biochemical parameters that 93.5% of the patients presented deficiency. Serum iron and creatinine levels revealed a significant difference between the patients' sex (p = 0.005; p = 0.000, respectively). All patients presented food intake with calcium levels below the recommended. Conclusion: The energy and protein levels that the patients obtained were compatible with a good nutritional level. The evaluation of sociodemographic characteristics and biochemical parameters can help in the screening to identify patients at risk of malnutrition.
