Abstract

Objective: To report a case of epidermoid skull cyst associated with neurological symptoms, which occurred due to its size and mass effect, diverging from classic cases in the literature, which are asymptomatic due to its small dimensions. Case details: A 68-year-old patient with neurological symptoms of vertigo, paresthesia, paresis, anisocoria and syncope, initially treated for labyrinthitis. When performing cranial imaging exams, there was the presence of an expansive lesion and indefinite limits, with compression of adjacent structures, suggestive of an epidermoid cyst, a rare and benign type of tumor that can even more rarely become malignant. Referred to a Hospita in Belo Horizonte city for evaluation and surgical approach, which is the standard treatment, through craniotomy, with tissue analysis by pathological anatomy. Final considerations: Although it is a benign and slow-growing lesion, the epidermoid cyst can reach considerable sizes to the point of causing symptoms and must receive adequate treatment to relieve them, through surgical intervention. In addition, although it is a rare complication, epidermoid cysts can undergo malignant degeneration.
