Abstract
Objective: To evaluate nurses' knowledge about the management of pressure injuries, focusing on risk factors, evaluation and treatment. Method: An exploratory study, developed with nine nurses from the adult ICU of a reference hospital in Belém do Pará, from February to October 2018. A questionnaire was applied, which approached their knowledge about the management of pressure injuries. The data were submitted to descriptive statistical treatment. The project was submitted and approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the FSCMP under opinion nº 2,695,305, respecting the terms set forth in Resolution 466/2012. Results: Regarding the profile of the ICU nurses, it was observed that the professional population is predominantly female, where more than half is graduated over 16 years. A similar situation was observed when analyzing the time of these professionals in the ICU, where the vast majority of them have been in the area for at least 11 years. Regarding nurses' knowledge about the management of pressure injuries, it was observed that these present some deficiencies, but can be considered satisfactory, a fact that enables planning and implementation of care with efficacy and safety. It was identified the need for permanent education of the team. Conclusion: The occurrence of pressure injuries is still a serious problem in intensive care units, despite the team's commitment to prevention and care. As a professional protagonist in the management of pressure injuries, it is concluded that knowledge is a fundamental requirement in nurses' best practices.
