Abstract
Objective: Evaluate a device to isolate wounds in the dorsal region of rats. Methods: It was made a device for dorsal isolation in rats using hypoallergenic surgical microporous tape associated with a strong fixation tape. Fixedness, integrity of the device and skin reaction arising from the use were evaluated. 30 males Wistar rats were used during a period of up to 28 days. Results: The device was effective in dorsal isolation. It remained intact and fixed to the animal and did not cause skin reactions. The handling was easy with rapid fixation and removal. It remained in the place, once the repositioning was only necessary during the dressing change. Conclusion: The dorsal isolation device allowed the accomplishment of the experiment with easy handling and did not induce movement limitations for the animals. It remained fixed, intact and did not provoke skin reactions.
