Abstract
Parkinson's Disease is a neurological disease characterized by a degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons, resulting in possible changes in the maintenance of posture, gait, balance, coordination, fine and others. One of the tools that can be used in physical therapy as an adjunct in the treatment of these individuals in order to stimulate the balance, is the vibrating platform. Its use micro transmits vibrations to the body, upsetting the body axis. The brain receives this information, reacts and sends information to the muscles resume balance sensorimotor reflex. Aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vibratory stimulation in improving balance in patients with Parkinson's disease. Participants were three males, mean age 73.3 years ± 3.51, diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. The application of vibrating platform with 30Hz frequency and amplitude of approximately 1 to 2 mm, was performed 2x / week for 3 consecutive weeks, for a period of 20 minutes in the standing position. The patients were assessed before and after treatment by Berg balance scale. The results of this study demonstrate that there was an improvement in the balance of patients with Parkinson application submitted to the vibrating platform and consequently a slight reduction of tremors. The vibrating platform can be used as adjuvant therapy for patients with Parkinson order to improve balance.
