Abstract
Objective: To analyze the frequency and quantity of Ritalin use by medical students at a University Center in Porto Velho, as well as to collect information about the sleep of these students. Methods: A questionnaire was applied online via prior agreement with the Free and Informed Consent Form by the participants. Questions were addressed which helped achieve the objective. In addition, exclusion criteria such as students under 18 and students who refused to respond were also adopted. Results: The sample consisted of 122 academics, most of them, attending the second year of Medicine and predominantly women. Most of them said they did not use Methylphenidate, however, among those who did, a significant portion said they used it for academic performance and had acquired it illegally. In addition, few students said they did not know about the psychoactive misuse. Conclusion: It can be observed that the use of Ritalin was shown to be low, since the knowledge of its effects is high on the part of the interviewed students, thus converging with studies carried out in some Brazilian regions and diverging from others in other regions.
