Abstract
Objective: To describe and clarify the main immediate problems resulting from bariatric surgery in women of childbearing age. Bibliographic review: In short, most bariatric patients with morbid obesity are women, thus taking into account the epidemiology and specifications of this public. Non-surgical techniques are also analyzed. However, when we analyze the surgical process, cholecystostomy appears as a big question about immediate post-complications as well as atelectasis, breast excess weight and malabsorption of food and vitamins, enteric fistulas. Other complications are encephalopathy, pulmonary embolism, optic neuropathy. Final considerations: Thus, it became evident that complications such as atelectasis, cholecystitis and iron deficiency are more prominent in the female sex, due to the female anatomy as well as its hormones. Disorders such as fistulas, pulmonary thromboembolism, metabolic acidosis and others are linked to the adopted surgical technique and age, but not to the patient's gender
