Abstract
Objective: Assess the knowledge in first aid of drivers undergoing training in a countryside city of Rio de Janeiro. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, with data obtained from questionnaire of 132 students from driving schools of a countryside city of Rio de Janeiro to characterize knowledge in first aid, between 2019 and 2020. Results: About the correct sequence of the primary assessment, 41.7% indicated ABCDE. When faced with victim who is not breathing, 8.3% agreed on elevating the victim's jaw. In hemorrhages, 32.6% correctly indicated “dark colored vomiting indicates bleeding in the digestive tract, especially the stomach and the victim must remain lying down”. Regarding vital signs, there were 54.5% errors. In the subject of PCR, 20.4% and 18.4% correctly marked “the victim should be placed on his back, with his neck raised in order to facilitate breathing” and “perform two artificial breaths for each 15 cardiac massages, if accompanied”, respectively. Among the 14 questions, 6 had error above 50%. Conclusion: There is a need for improvement in the conduct of PS learning for future drivers, since a large percentage of error was identified in basic questions about the topic, especially basic cardiovascular support.
