Methods: Data were collected through the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), whose study variable was year of notification, age, sex, and exposure circumstances and evolution of cases after drug intoxication. Results: A total of 4,023 cases of exogenous intoxication per drug were reported in Piauí, with a higher prevalence in Teresina followed by Picos, which were approximately forty-seven times greater in 2017 (889 notifications) than in 2007 (19 notifications). Final considerations: The analysis of the cases allowed to consider the profile of the use of drugs in the state of Piauí, which is associated with other purposes, not only the pharmacotherapeutic, and this work collaborated as a warning to care about the use of medications.
