Abstract
The present study reveals a case where it was necessary to improvise the use of surgical screws for holding the clamping jaw during surgery. A simple technique for intermaxillary fixation for maxillomandibular fixation is made from miniscrews and snap rings. This technique was used to treat a patient victim of firearm that caused comminuted fractures of the mandible. Some authors advocate the FMM approach as the preferred method of unfavorable fractures, multiple or comminuted maxillomandibular complex. Even though, according to principles of AO / ASIF, the goal of open reduction and internal fixation (RIF) is to perform a cure, as well as restore anatomy and function, without the patient having mouth opening blocked. We conclude that the technique used in this case effectively favored the return of chewing movements, occlusion and a nice aesthetics, and the patient had no signs of inflammation or pain complaint.
