Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the dental biofilm control and gingival bleeding through the Index of Visible Plate (IPV) and Index of Gingival Bleeding (ISG). Indexes were previously verified before at the instructions of buccal hygiene in the "Centros Educacionais Infantis Santa Luzia" (group A), and "Gota de Leite Mãos Unidas" (group B). The methods of indirect instruction with macromodels and supervised direct instruction had been applied for 15 weeks. Indexes were also obtained after giving instructions on habits of oral hygiene. Student´s t-test was applied to statistical analysis, with significance level equal to 5%. When IPVs before and after the motivation were compared, we observed that, in group A, regarding the index of visible plate (IPV), the initial exam corresponded 80.75% and, in the end, it was 26.7%. In group B, it was 60.72% and, after the accompaniment of the program, it was 9.12%. Therefore, it can be affirmed that there was statistical difference, since the tcal=4.44>ttab=3.18. When done compare IPVs of the groups A and B, we observed that, statistically, there was difference, because the tcal=15.35>ttab=12.70. Out of 240 appraised children, 46.25% were female and 53.75% of the male. Statistical difference was not observed so much among the sexes for the ISG tcal=1.13<ttab=3.18, as for the IPV tcal=3.07<ttab=3.18. These results suggest that the setting of a program of oral hygiene decreased IPV when appropriated dentistry accompaniment had been made.
