Abstract
Objective: Review important points about atopic dermatitis and its treatment. Bibliographic review: The incidence of AD has increased considerably in the last 3 decades, becoming an important public health problem. AD is a disease with clinical manifestations of symptoms during childhood. The etiology is multifactorial and has patterns of inheritance, marked by the high ability to form reagent (IgE), with increased susceptibility to allergic rhinitis and asthma. There is no consensus in the literature to standardize pathognomonic signs, the pathophysiology of AD in the clinic and in the laboratory. Treatment is based on skin hydration and use of anti-inflammatory drugs needed in each case to reduce itching and minimize skin inflammation, as well as measures to avoid contact with allergens. Final considerations: It is evident, therefore, childhood eczema has patterns of inheritance and as etiology some complex mechanisms. In addition, there is no agreement in the literature with a flow chart to guide the treatment, making further studies on the subject necessary.
