Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the antifungal activity of α-terpineol on yeast strains belonging to the Genus Candida. Methodology: Explanatory Research, experimental method and qualitative approach. Susceptibility tests were performed by the technique of diffusion in agar, by using selected strains of Candida (ATCC-0936; ATCC 7937) and others derived from patients infected by Candida species. Results: The α-terpineol shows antifungal activity against Candida albicans at concentrations of 260 and 390 mg; Candida lusitaniae, 130 and 65 mg; Candida dubliniensis, 130 mg; Candida krusei, 260 and 390 mg; Candida tropicalis, 130 mg; Candida parapsilosis, 260 and 390 mg and 130 mg Candida glabrata. Conclusion: α-terpineol has antifungal activity against Candida species and can be in the future, a therapeutic option in the treatment of infections caused by these yeasts.
