Abstract
OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the level of nutritional knowledge of physical exercise practitioners from Belém district academies. METHODS: Descriptive, quantitative and qualitative study using questionnaires where the results were transformed into numbers and information for classification and analysis. A total of 70 individuals of both sexes, aged between 20 and 64 years old, were distributed in eight academies belonging to the district of Belém. Data were organized in Excel® spreadsheets (2007) and later exported to Epi Info version 3.5 .2 and analyzed in a descriptive way with central tendency by frequency distribution, using mean standard deviation and percentage. The data were collected after authorization of the participant through the term of free consent and free clarification. RESULTS: In the questions about pre-workout, post-workout and energy intake for physical exercise, most interviewees showed insufficient knowledge, which was corroborated by the answers found when asked about the origin of this knowledge, where less Half of the population studied, (35.71%), reported that it comes from a professional nutritionist. CONCLUSION: The results showed that the research participants have insufficient nutritional knowledge about diet in the practice of physical exercise, which demonstrates the relevance of the nutritionist in the individual orientation of the physical exercise practitioner.
