Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and lipid profile in professionals of a higher education institution. CASEISTICS AND METHOD: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 53 employees of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Maranhão (FACEMA), of both genders, aged between 24 and 38 years. The lipid profile was determined by the colorimetric enzymatic method, using the Labtest® Kits. The statistical analysis of the data was performed through the SPSS v. 18.0, using Student's t-tests to compare the values. Results: The mean values and standard deviation found for BMI were 25.76 ± 4.95 and 29.39 ± 5.47 for females and males, respectively. Waist circumference was 80.08 ± 10.22 for women and 95.28 ± 13.70 for men. Among the variables evaluated, there was a significant positive correlation between% G, age, CT and LDL, as well as between waist circumference and body mass index (p <0.05). Conclusion: It can be observed that the employees present cardiovascular risk and that the percentage of body fat is influenced by age and participates in the development of dyslipidemias. Thus, guidelines on healthy eating practices and physical activities are essential for the prevention of CVD.
