Abstract
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of cardiovascular disease risk factors and to investigate the association with the menopausal transition in climacteric women. Methods: Cross-sectional and analytical research whose population evaluated corresponds to climacteric women assisted by the Family Health Strategies of the city of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. The women were selected according to the climacteric period, followed by anthropometric assessments and laboratory tests. Descriptive analyzes were performed through percentage and analysis of comparison using the chi-square test, adopting a level of significance of p <0.05. Results: The sample consisted of 882 climacteric women, with a mean age of 51.03 (dp ±7.19) years. Among the risk factors analyzed, low HDL (77.7%), abdominal circumference (CA) (64.6%), and blood pressure (PA) (58.6%) had higher rates among women . When comparing the climacteric phases, only the BP (p = 0.000) and the AC (p = 0.018) obtained significant results. Conclusion: The higher prevalence of altered cardiovascular risk factors among women was confirmed in HDL, CA and PA. The association of cardiovascular risk factors between climacteric phases, it was pointed out that the altered PA and CA were evidenced in the postmenopausal period.
