Abstract

Objective: Review the main immunobiologicals used for the treatment of severe asthma in the pediatric population. Bibliographic review: Severe asthma still prevails as a major cause of childhood morbidity. The utilization of immunomodulators have shown great positive results, especially the Omalizumab, a medication that has the greatest numbers of research and proven benefits. Since Omalizumab has been approved for management of asthma, different biological therapies have revolutionized the therapy of uncontrolled severe allergic diseases in children. Drugs like Mepolizumab, Reslizumab, Benralizumab e Dupilumab are still in continuous clinical trials and in the future could be added to the protocols. Final considerations: Therefore it becomes evident that immunobiologicals represent a promising alternative for the treatment of severe asthma because focus on treatment specific to the inflammatory process on asthma. However, comparative studies are necessary to help doctors to choose the best terapeutical for specific pediatric populations and solve the principal uncertainties that immunobiologicals have shown.
