Abstract
Objective: To present what the literature presents about Guillain Barré syndrome and its treatment, demonstrating the main benefits of early physiotherapeutic intervention. Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, where the following question was asked: "How can physiotherapy help in the treatment of patients with Guillain Barré Syndrome?". Results: A search was made for the BVS, PeDro and Scielo databases, where the following keywords were used: Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Physiotherapy, Acute Autoimmune Neuropathy and Therapeutic Procedures. Nineteen articles were selected, where the main line of research investigated was the physical therapy treatment of the patient with Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS), as well as their association with possible triggering factors, a factor that brought the disease to debate in 2015, After the correlation of the Zika Virus to the onset of the syndrome. The studies demonstrated that the treatment of the syndrome should be performed by a multidisciplinary team, with physiotherapy being responsible for helping to prevent possible sequelae as well as assisting in the process of accelerating patient recovery. Conclusion: After analyzing the studies, it was observed that physical therapy has a fundamental importance in the treatment of the syndrome, being necessary from the moment of diagnosis and should accompany the patient in all phases of the treatment, in order to avoid possible sequels. With this study, it is hoped to pave the way for new advances in relation to the implantation of the physiotherapy team in an early manner in the treatment of the syndrome.
