Abstract
Objective: To analyze the repercussions of the use of positive and negative religious/spiritual coping among informal caregivers. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, using the following databases: LILACS, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, Virtual Health Library, Cinahl and Scielo, with the descriptors: “coping behavior”, “caregivers", "spirituality" and "religion". Primary articles in English, Portuguese or Spanish were selected. Results: 19 articles were selected. The repercussions of positive religious/spiritual coping included: feelings of hope, motivation, confidence, comfort and acceptance, expectations of improvement and cure, overcoming post-traumatic situations, improved health behavior, reduced stress, overload and depressive symptoms, satisfaction with care, improvement in the perception of quality of life and mental health. On the other hand, the repercussions of negative religious/spiritual coping included depression, overload, anxiety, stress, worse overcoming of post-traumatic situations, inadequate health behavior, dissatisfaction with care and worse perception of quality of life. Final considerations: Although spirituality and religiosity are related to subjective contexts and individualized meaning, there is evidence that their benefits have been growing, as well as their implementation in clinical practice. In this sense, the possibility of its use as a health indicator for informal caregivers is reinforced.
