Abstract
Objective: To analyze the main predictors of higher incidence of endometriosis recurrence in hysterectomized women. Methods: This is a literature review, consulting scientific articles published between 2008 and 2020 in electronic databases: PUBMED, Scopus and Web of science. The keywords used were "endometriosis", "hysterectomy", "treatment", "recurrence". Results: Endometriosis recurrence is due to numerous factors, including: epidemiology, association with surgery, predictors of risk, pathophysiology, relationship with postoperative treatment, association with conception, relatio with hormone replacement therapy, immunological factors, biomarkers, treatment and prevention of endometriosis recurrence. However, the most likely cause of endometriosis recurrence after a hysterectomy is the cells and tissues that remain after surgery, as they are difficult to identify and retain. Final considerations: This article allowed us to recognize ways that minimize the recurrence of endometriosis after hysterectomy, such as the surgeon's experience, the complete removal of deep lesions and the sterization of microscopic foci. Therefore, it is expected that this study will contribute to reducing the recurrence of endometriosis after hysterectomy.
