Abstract
Objectives: To describe the possible relationship between the age of patients living with the reality of psychiatric disorder and the burden on family caregivers in a child psychosocial care center. Methods: Cross - sectional, descriptive study with non - probabilistic samples of the accidental type of 80 relatives of users of a Child Psychosocial Care Center. To evaluate the overload, the "B" and "D" subscales of the Family Overload Assessment Scale (FBIS-BR) were used. Results: The mean age of the caregivers was 39.7 years, with a predominance of the female gender and low level of schooling of the subjects, while the mean age of the users was 13.9 years. There was only association between the age of the users and the objective overload in the item of excessive attention demand. Conclusions: The results indicate an association between the age of the psychiatric patient and the increase of the family's burden only when age is higher and related to the objective overload in the excessive demand for daily care.
