Abstract

Objective: To highlight  and review the main aspects related to Covid-19 infection and the maintenance or interruption of treatment of hypertensive patients using Angiotensin-Converter Enzyme Inhibitors (ACEI) and Blockers of  Angiotensin Receptor (BRA) Bibliographic review: The Covid-19 is a disease of infectious and it has a diversity of clinical manifestations, mainly, due to the expression of the Angiotensin II-Converter Enzyme (ACE 2). Some medicines act directly on the enzyme receptors, such as ACEI and BRA that act on the Renine-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS), controlling blood pressure levels. These drugs increase the expression of ACE2, favoring the angiotensin pathway 1-7, decreasing blood pressure, inflammation and fibrosis. Hypertensive people using IECA/BRA have favor this route favored. Final considerations: ACEI/BRA antihypertensive drugs decrease the action of angiotensin II and increase the expression of ACE2, evidencing the hypothesis of potential beneficial effects to patients with COVID-19, through the reduction of viral load of hospitalized patients, and the improvement of the prognosis.
