Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of hepatitis A in the State of Pará, northern Brazil, between the years 2007 and 2018. Methods: Research and obtaining secondary data provided on the free access websites of the National System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) and the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) to analyze the incidence and sociodemographic and clinical information of confirmed cases of hepatitis A. Results: Between 2007 and 2018, 5,761 cases of hepatitis A were reported in the State of Pará (6.1 cases / 100,000 inhabitants). The municipalities with the highest records of the disease are located in the mesoregion of the lower amazonas (northwest of Pará), with Santarém and Alenquer standing out. The sociodemographic profile of the confirmed cases was mostly young, brown, male, who lived in an urban area and low level of education. Regarding the clinical profile, in most cases the reported infection route was through contaminated water and food, had acute hepatitis and was diagnosed through laboratory tests. Conclusion: The State of Pará showed a significant reduction in notified cases of hepatitis A and the region of the lower amazon concentrated the largest number of cases.
