Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the rate of weight regain and adherence to consultations in a group of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, in the regions of Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: This is a retrospective, exploratory, qualitative study carried out through the analysis of medical records of patients seen in 2019. The randomized sample consisted of 86 medical records, where the evolution of weight and Body Mass Index of the pre surgery consultation, after 6, 12 and 18 months were analyzed. Adherence to consultations with a nutritionist was also analyzed and a comparison was made between the three regions. Results: Regarding weight loss, there was a significant loss in the three regions after 6 months, but after 12 months, only in Rio Grande do Sul there was significant weight loss and after 18 months there was a tendency to regain weight in the three regions and a 50% reduction in consultations. Conclusion: There was a weight loss in the three analyzed regions, with an initial Body Mass Index of morbid obesity and after 18 months the Body Mass Index was overweight, with a low adherence in the long term.
