Abstract

Objective: To identify challenges faced by nurses in managing the Material and Sterilization Center (CME). Methods: Integrative literature review, carried out from January to July 2020, in the electronic databases: Virtual Health Library, Higher Education Personnel Improvement Coordination, Scientific Electronic Library Online and PubMed. The descriptors used were: Nurses, Sterilization and Management. Results: 16 articles were selected, dealing with staff dimensioning, activities which are the responsibility of nurses, experiences and experiences of professionals at the Material and Sterilization Center, education and workers profile, nurses training, work organization, sector visibility, the perception of the units served and Further (continuing) Education. Final considerations: It was found a deficiency during the training of the professional and also at continuing education related to the Material and Sterilization Center. The nurse through continuing and joint education to consumer units will bring appreciation and recognition. More in-depth studies on this topic are increasingly necessary to reduce the scarcity of knowledge about the reality of the CME and, consequently, its nurse manager.
