Abstract

Objective: To verify the association of the primiparous woman's self-efficacy with the Maintenance of Breastfeeding (MB) until the child's sixth month of life. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, including publications between 2011 and 2021, categorizing the findings through a robust analysis, with data interpretation and knowledge synthesis. The guiding question “do primiparous women have less confidence in maintaining breastfeeding?” was used. Results: Initially, 26 articles were found, remaining four articles after elimination of duplicates and applying the previously classified inclusion and exclusion criteria, thus excluding the other articles that did not fit. Final considerations: Studies on maternal self-efficacy in primigravidae and maintenance of BF in these women are limited in the literature so far. Several factors influence this woman's adherence to BF. The challenge of breastfeeding, associated with the worst socioeconomic condition and low schooling of primiparous women, contributes to early weaning.
