Abstract
Objective: Review and analyze the main characteristics and techniques used by Forensic Entomology (FE). Bibliographic review: Forensic Entomology (FE) is a science applied in the judicial sphere, supporting the resolution of crimes. For this, it is necessary to use methods and tools that help in the determination of the Post-Mortem Interval (IPM) from entomological evidence of scavenger insects. In Brazil, the main insects of entomological relevance are of the Coleoptera and Diptera orders. The IPM needs to be precise, as it identifies and eliminates suspects and helps in the identification of victims, therefore, the analyzes must be carried out carefully, as several damages can be caused to the investigation, such as the elimination of important facts and evidence. for legal proceedings. The results from the classical techniques used to determine the MPI are complemented and validated with data obtained from modern DNA research methodologies. Final considerations: EF is a very valuable area of forensic science, but it is still not widespread and needs investments for its technical-scientific development.
