Resumen
Objetivo: Son describir la técnica de toracotomía de reanimación, sus indicaciones y recopilar información de estudios sobre su desempeño, para brindar datos basados en evidencia y ayudar a los cirujanos generales y médicos de urgencias en su toma de decisiones sobre el uso de esta técnica. Revisión bibliográfica: Los resultados demostraron que la toracotomía de reanimación es útil para salvar vidas, pero solo es concebible para pacientes que sufren traumatismos graves (especialmente los penetrantes) con paro cardíaco in-extremis. Debido a que este tipo de trauma es una situación de emergencia extrema, que requiere un procedimiento inmediato, la toracotomía de reanimación se realiza comúnmente fuera de la sala de operaciones y no siempre hay un cirujano general disponible. Consideraciones finales: Este estudio advierte que los hospitales que reciben pacientes de emergencia después de un trauma realizan capacitación de sus profesionales para recibir a estos pacientes, ya que pueden necesitar una toracotomía de reanimación, que puede ser la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte de estos pacientes
