Resumen

Objective: To compare the effects of digital media use between children with and without phonological disorder regarding age of onset, exposure time, and weekly frequency of use, based on caregivers’ perceptions. Methods: The study included two groups of parents of children aged four to eight years and 11 months. The first group consisted of 21 parents of children with phonological disorder, and the second group consisted of 20 parents of children without phonological disorder. Results: Most of the variables investigated—age of first contact, type of device used, daily exposure time, weekly frequency, purpose of use, and perceived behavioral interference—showed no significant differences between the groups. The only statistically significant difference was found in access limitation to digital media, with greater control reported by caregivers of children without phonological disorder. Conclusion: The findings indicate that, in the sample studied, digital media use was not associated with the presence of phonological disorder. However, the mediating role of caregivers in regulating this use is noteworthy. Studies with larger samples and longitudinal methods are recommended to further explore the relationship between digital exposure, family interaction, and phonological development.
