Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this analysis was to identify the level of knowledge of diabetics assisted in Primary Health Care in the city of Maceió/AL about self-care and prevention of diabetic foot. Methods: For this purpose, the research used the descriptive exploratory method of a quantitative nature, and the study was carried out with people diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus from a UBS in Maceió/AL through a questionnaire adapted from the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire – SDSCA to assess knowledge about prevention of diabetic foot. Results: The results indicated that most participants, despite claiming lack of guidance from health professionals, have correct general knowledge regarding foot care for people with diabetes. Most of the answers were homogeneous when comparing the gender and age group variables, with four (4) being the number of answers that reached statistically relevant differences. Conclusion: In view of the refusal of most participants to receive specific monitoring and instruction on the care of diabetics with their feet, it is necessary to promote educational activities with this objective.
