Abstract
Objective: To analyze the main benefits of frenectomy surgery in the lives of dental patients. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, carried out during the months of May and December 2022, in the SCIELO, LILACS and BVS databases. In addition, the academic Google search engine was used, with the help of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Frenectomy; Ankyloglossia; Lip Brake; frenulum. The inclusion criteria were articles in Portuguese, published between 2018 and 2022 and free of charge, while the exclusion criteria were duplicate studies, theses, abstracts, reviews and studies that deviated from the proposed theme. After screening the articles, only 10 articles were selected to compose the final sample. Results: Frenectomy consists of removing an anatomical structure from the oral cavity, called the lingual and labial frenulum, which can grow abnormally, causing several obstacles in the patient's life. Final considerations: It was concluded that the main benefits of frenectomy depend on the degree of involvement and the location, but can be defined as: correct movement of the tongue, improvement in swallowing and feeding, restoration of phonation; gummy smile corrections; greater mouth opening, better amplitude and speed of mandibular movements and improvement in speech ability.
