Abstract

Objective: To describe, through a seroepidemiological and molecular study, the prevalence of infection by the hepatitis A, B and C viruses in public school students in a municipality in the northeast of Pará. Methods: Descriptive, exploratory, quantitative, cross-sectional study, in which the seroepidemiological and molecular situation of viral hepatitis A, B and C was evaluated in students of Regular High School and Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Data collection was carried out on a voluntary basis with completion of an individual inquiry form and collection of blood samples from each participant. Results: There was a prevalence of 36.6% for total anti-HAV reagent with 63.4% susceptible; 0.2% for HBsAg and 47.5% anti-HBs reagent isolate, in the only HBsAg reagent sample HBV-DNA was detectable with low viral load; there was no reactive result for anti-HCV. Conclusion: The research provoked the governmental spheres of public health, in the sense of evaluating the health services and epidemiological surveillance of viral hepatitis, by showing that prevention strategies must be adjusted and intensified the vaccination campaigns against hepatitis A, B and C, in the population of the municipality.
