Results: In order to give back to women their role as protagonists during childbirth and to offer technical and humanized quality care, the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health proposed conducts to be recommended in this context. However, it is still seen the practice of unnecessary interventions that do not consider the scientific evidence or the individual, social and cultural characteristics of the parturient, leading to unfavorable perinatal results, as well as negative biopsychosocial repercussions for her. Final considerations: The pregnancy-puerperal cycle should be considered a natural and physiological event in which the health team respects the wishes of the parturient. It is necessary to implement and supervise humanized teaching practices and improve the quality of public health services.
